Hennessey Venom Loses Its Roof For 2013

There is a big argument in this country these days about economic inequality, but we won’t burden you with politics. Suffice to say though, there seems to be a widening horsepower gap in the world right now as well, and it is hard to be taken seriously in certain circles without owning a car that has at least 1,000 horsepower. While four digit power isn’t uncommon, such vehicles are rarely available as a droptop.Hennessey is changing that with the announcement that for 2013, its 1,200 horsepower, LS-powered Venom GT model will be getting a roofless Spyder version for the low, low cost of $150,000.

That is $150,000 on top of the Hennessey Venom GT’s $950,000 price tag. For those of you busting out the calculator, that means a Venom GT Spyder will start at $1.1 million. Bugatti Veyron, eat your heart out.

The 1,200 horsepower, mid-engine monster tips the scales at around 2,500 pounds, giving it blistering acceleration and a theoretical top speed of 272 MPH. We wonder how taking off the roof affects acceleration and top speed? Not that it matters, of course, because the Hennessey Venom GT is still among the fastest cars in the world, and you’ll be the envy of even your most elite friends now that you spent $150,000 on a removable targa top.
